Job Summary

The City & County of Honolulu Office of Climate Change, Sustainability & Resiliency (CCSR), in partnership with the Corporation for National and Community Service, is looking for a systems-thinking, sustainability-minded person to commit to 12 months of service as an AmeriCorps VISTA . During your service, you will focus on researching, cataloging and bridging the work of other public and private entities in an effort to partner effectively with CCSR and the City & County of Honolulu. This position will initially focus on creating a "systems map" of related entities and allow CCSR to act as a community "hub" for information and partnerships between organizations that can leverage their work together towards sustainability and resilience efforts. The VISTA will also be responsible for compiling relevant information and data from stakeholder and partner organizations in order to make it readily available to the public. This position will have significant work experience through hands-on experiential learning, providing an opportunity to take on meaningful responsibility quickly and engage with a diverse network of local, national and international partners.

Responsibilities and Duties

This VISTA member will focus on researching, cataloging and bridging the work of other public and private entities in an effort to partner effectively with the City. This position will create a "system map" of related entities and allow CCSR to act as a community "hub" for information and partnerships between organizations that can leverage their work together towards sustainability and resilience efforts. The member will be responsible for compiling relevant information and data from stakeholder and partner organizations, in order to make it readily available to the public. This position is especially good for someone with a strong attention to detail, an interest in a collaborative approach to sustainability, and someone who is familiar with Hawai‘i’s geography and communities, and has respect for its language, culture and traditions. Projects include fostering external partnerships, network mapping, stakeholder engagement, community outreach, communications, and data management.

Qualifications and Skills

Candidates should have an interest and demonstrated experience with community outreach, stakeholder engagement, or working with government/non-profit groups. Candidates should also have an interest in building community resilience, public administration, and public policy. Ideally, candidates would have an understanding of social media, building/maintaining websites, and a basic understanding of climate change impacts to island communities.

Job Summary

The City & County of Honolulu's Office of Climate Change, Sustainability & Resiliency (CCSR), in partnership with the Corporation for National and Community Service, seeks an environmentally-focused AmeriCorps VISTA to empower our community by creating a more sustainable and resilient O‘ahu, through empowerment, efficiency, and mitigation and adaptation of the effects caused by climate change. This VISTA member will be assigned to assist the CCSR Energy Program Manager to build critical decision-making tools and capacity for ongoing decision-making related to the City’s Climate Action and Adaptation Plan, and the City’s commitment to abide by the Paris Agreement and Chicago Climate Charter. Importantly, the program is designed to identify weaknesses and present solutions for underserved and vulnerable populations, and to help promote inclusiveness and social equity as integral success factors.

Responsibilities and Duties

The VISTA member will conduct research to identify and validate source data; organize data into dynamic, adjustable datasets, spreadsheets, or databases; assist the Energy Program Manager to analyze and synthesize data into actionable insights and policy priorities; and then present the findings and conclusions in both static an interactive formats or publicly accessible datasets. In addition, the position will help build and publish to the Internet an interactive Energy and GHG Dashboard for public viewing and education. This will require the VISTA to have demonstrated experience and capabilities in spreadsheet and database software programs as well as a basic understanding of, or feel for, the quantitative and qualitative elements of data science, economics, statistics, and finance.

Energy & Water Efficiency Coordinator

Energy & Water Efficiency Coordinator

Job Summary

The City & County of Honolulu's Office of Climate Change, Sustainability & Resiliency (CCSR), in partnership with the Corporation for National and Community Service, seeks a sustainability-minded AmeriCorps VISTA to fight poverty and empower our community by creating a more sustainable and resilient O‘ahu, through empowerment, efficiency, and mitigation and adaptation of the effects caused by climate change. This VISTA member will be assigned to work on energy and water efficiency, in the household, in transportation, and for health and preparedness in the face of climate-enhanced hazards and events. This VISTA will team with three other VISTA members working on 1) climate action planning, 2) external partnerships and network mapping, and 3) affordable housing. All of these VISTA positions will work together to build social infrastructure, expand community partnerships, and secure long-term resources, which will create pathways for economic and social resilience for low-income communities, moving them out of poverty. Through this program, CCSR intends to positively impact low-income communities across the Island of O‘ahu. Collectively, the VISTAs will accomplish this work by delivering climate change solutions and efficiency measures that can reduce Hawai‘i’s high cost of living, linking complementary efforts, and directly assisting vulnerable communities in need of housing and community preparedness assistance.

The VISTA member will analyze energy and water data from multiple sources, build community and household capacity to self-assess behaviors and opportunities for conservation and financial savings, and therefore help alleviate poverty, and connect community members with other supportive resources and existing programs that focus on energy and water conservation/savings. This position will work directly with the CCSR energy and water program managers, respectively, to develop strategies. The position will then evolve to create materials and facilitate projects to enhance organizational, household, and individual capacities to conserve energy and water resources and save money.

Qualifications and Skills

Candidates should have an interest and background in energy and water conservation, data management, and individual empowerment and household planning. Ideally, candidates would also have an interest in public administration, public policy, and advocacy.

Job Summary

The City & County of Honolulu's Office of Climate Change, Sustainability & Resiliency(CCSR), in partnership with the Corporation for National and Community Service, seeks a compassionate AmeriCorps VISTA to fight poverty and empower our community. This VISTA member will build data capacity within the City and its non-profit partners by immersing into the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) and other selected data systems for the collection, reporting, and analysis of information on programs addressing homelessness and affordable housing on O‘ahu. This work will assist the Mayor’s Office of Housing (MOH) and other collaborators (both within the City and external partners) to assess program impact, identify effective programs for scaling, and identify gaps in programming and strategy. Program goals include improving outcomes for affordable housing, senior housing, special needs housing, and the homeless population. The VISTA will help report data and results, and communicate measurable impact to partners and the public.

Responsibilities and Duties

The VISTA member will review data completeness reports, performance reports and other available reports using HMIS and other selected data sources, and will compare data to service goals and outcome measures. This VISTA will also present data results to the Executive Director of MOH on a weekly basis to discuss if focus needs to be on service deliveries or in data collection and management, and to determine whether improvements need to be made. The collection of data for dashboard integration will include developing data collection tools, communication tools/models, and solicitation of data from key stakeholders, and actual collection of data and information dissemination where gaps exist. Lastly, the VISTA will post pertinent information to MOH social media (e.g., Facebook and Twitter) and develop models for regular communication of results and impact.

Qualifications and Skills

Candidates should have and interest and demonstrated experience with data collection, analysis of information, reporting, and use of social media. In addition, candidates should have an interest and background in housing/homeless issues, social social services, or non-profit work. Ideally, candidates would also have an interest in public administration and public policy.
